Hazel was name after a friend who died in a car accident. She was loved, and so was this dog who became our family. For a couple of days we had no idea but we had our doubts. When we took here to check-up after four days of adoption, we finally knew why she behaved the way she behaved. When we figured out that Hazel was blind, training her hearing was our first approach.
Even though she couldn’t see, she was never a burden to us. If anything, we were dedicated to make her see the world. We used to instruct her by calling her and she did react. We regularly had a session with here where we took her to the park and in our little games, we made her ears a strong sense organ for her convenience.
We moved some furniture by the edge of the walls so she can have plenty of space to walk around without getting injured. And it was working, even though she ran into things sometimes, she had a lot of space for her activities and comfort.
But after a couple of days, she started picking out were everything was. She was still friendly and same but her tail stayed still. Her behaviour turned a bit low, always laying around and doing no activity. It was hard to figure what the problem was.
After a few days, there was a shift in her mood again. Her tail danced in the air, not taking any breaks. She started enjoying the toys that never interested her ever before. Her happiness was all that mattered to us at that and at every moment of our journey together.
Povide her a cozy and comfortable home, and a family who loves her and care for her wereour intentions from the initial phases. We loved her and wanted her to have all the kind people in her life.
And then there was finally the day of taking her to the animal hospital for the surgery to reverse the blindness. It was a big event, she was going to see the world for the first time.
Her second foster family, Alison and Peter, stated that Mr. Bones and co. reached out to tell them that Hazel needs a home. Not only that, but also that for the time they are taking care of her, at some point she might need a surgery to get her eyesight back. Alison was quite excited because she was going to be the first one to be with her when she gets her eyesight back.
We were at AMC, to pick Hazel up from the surgery. The doctor says that she needs some time to get her vision back but I get a feeling that she can see a bit. After we reached home, we noticed that she was smiling a lot and her tail never at rest. She looked happy and excited.
We had never seen her so excited and active before. She was walking around the appartment, looking at all the stuff and not running into them. She might not be able to see everything clearly yet but you could tell she was aware of her surroundings now. Her head never stopped swinging here and there, watching everything and everyone continuously.
The surgery gave her confidence. She walked like she owned the world and we were so delighted to witness all of it. It was like watching your kids walk for the very first time.
But now, it was time to bid our goodbyes. We were still not ready for it. It was for the best, she was going to have a wonderful home with wonderful family and a wonderful life.
She was carrying the sticks around the woods in the video clips, she never did that before. We were so relieved to see that she was happy in her new home. It was indeed for the best.
The relationship a dog has with it’s owner
Not many people understand what true friendship is. Even if they have many friends. But the dog owners knows how exactly it feels like. The dog has a unique relationship with the owner, one that can’t be explained in words.
The owner provides shelter, food and care to the dog and it, in return, gives all the love it has. If someone is depressed, he must adopt a dog and he won’t be grieving anymore. I myself own two dogs and trust me, it was the best decision of my life. I know many dog owners can relate.
It feels like you are being loved without getting judged. A dog parent is the most humble human to exist, he has patience, he is kind and he cares for the ones around him. That dog tought him that.
In the end I must say this once, if you want to be happy, go and adopt a dog now. You won’t regret it.
