Our travels on the highway took a different turn when we encountered a dog lying motionless on it with uneven breathing. No one was around to help the poor creature or if I must say, no one ‘stopped’ to do so. Yes, people acknowledged her presence but not a single soul took mercy on her. But that can’t be too bad because we got to help her in the nowhere.
The Pregnant Dog On Highway
After taking a closer look, we discovered about her pregnant state. Her temperature was high and she feverish. And probably even hungry. The weather was also not favourable with -2°C in count.
The freezing environment caused her muscles to become stiff and immobile. Looking at her eyes, one could tell that she was grieving inside of pain. We didn’t have had enough courage to leave that lost soul to die out in cold in that state, so we settled her in our car and went to pharmacy. Our experience guided us to buy her some medicine. We mixed it in water before giving it to her.
Fragile State Of Poor Dog
She was still fragile and was cautious of strangers. It was quite a challenge to make her take the medicines in fact, we had to use tube to pump medicine in her mouth.
Our next step was to take her home. Our creativity led us to build a house out of wooden logs and other tools. The wooden logs emerged from an old table. We succeeded in finding a warm old blanket to keep her cozy and warm.
Recovering Process
She finally got comfortable enough to show some activities. Her body temperature was finally normal and she was out of pain.
We went from having to pump medicine in her mouth to feeding her in a bowl like all the other dogs and to was satisfying to see her finish it all off so quickly. We stayed up all night to make her more comfortable.
New Mother Dog
Exactly four days later, she gave birth to her newborns. It took her twenty minutes to give birth and three cute baby dogs were born. Fortunately, all the of the newborns were healthy and well appetized.
The mother seems to be weak and exhausted after delivery, though she seemed quite happy being a mother. Her motherhood seemed to take over her fatigue.
We held her little family together in our sight. We tried our best to help her through the process, however, another problem trapped us.
Heartbreaking State Of Her Baby
The black baby dog seemed a bit off. It was very weak since birth. It was not able to drink milk on his own and needed her assistance.
By the time, we decided to wait. We prepared porridge for the new mother dog due to the abilities of porridge to digest easily. We gave her some side meals as well to flourish her with vitamins and minerals. She ate the meal affectionately. Gratitude was clearly visible in her eyes.
It took a long time but she finally opened up to us with friendliness.
Grieving Her Loss
She was completely broken. The black puppy became weaker with time until it took it’s last breath in her embrace. She was grieving while we took care of all the things.
She was not ready to face it yet, she skipped meals, run into the backyard and stared at nothing. It was hard for her to lose on of her children. She was no longer interested in taking care of the other two.
We did our best trying to comfort her in that situation. But she stayed isolated for days. But the other two were needed to be taken care of, so it fall upon us to do so. We took the responsibility and managed to take care of the puppies.
Finally Saying Goodbye To The Gone One
It took her a month to get back to her life again. She finally got over the grief and started a new life. The other two kid dogs also grew well and were adopted by two kind hearted families. They are happy in their new family and new environment. We were granted to visit them anytime we missed them. That made our decision of sending them away a lot easier.
Her condition bettered that she started eating five times a day. Her body recovery quickly with our help. She overcame all the hardships she went through.
